Using the current protocol, up to 36 specimen tips per Microtip coupon can be fabricated for analysis in the Local Electrode Atom Probe (LEAP 5000 XS), housed at the Alabama Analytical Research Center (AARC) of the University of Alabama.
The Microtip coupons are commonly held at base temperatures of 30 K to 70K. The tip specimens are pulsed with a 355 nm wavelength laser at user-defined energy densities. Geological standards are normally subjected to pulse repetition rates of 200 kHz, but specific specimens may require analysis at 160 kHz or 250 kHz. The targeted evaporation is set at 0.2% to 0.5%. The ambient vacuum pressure is <10-8 Pa. |
